HVAC Experts You Can Trust

Is an Air Conditioner Tune Up service, AC Cleaning or AC Preseason Cleaning on Your Spring Cleaning List?

When spring arrives, so many homeowners are working on their spring cleaning lists. Most homeowners include things like putting away the winter linens, washing floors and windows and generally decluttering the home among their list of things that need done. However, do not forget to include an air conditioner tune up on the spring cleaning list. Before you know it, the hot weather will arrive and that air conditioner will be put to use in cooling and dehumidifying the home's air. There are many important reasons and benefits to include a tune-up for the air conditioning system on your yearly spring cleaning list.

Benefits of having AC or HVAC system professionally cleaned and maintained

A tune up service for the air conditioning system ensures that it will operate efficiently, effectively and safely. A dirty or poorly lubricated motor could overheat, resulting in a system breakdown and costly repair bill. A low coolant level could result in ineffective cooling and dehumidification of the home. Proper tune up service checks for these issues as well as any other potential problems could prevent them from occurring. Its benefits are listed below:
Higher energy efficiency - Dust buildup, loose connections and dirty coils considerably reduce an air conditioner's efficiency.
Lower energy bills - When your HVAC system is inefficient, you pay a lot more for cooling your home than is necessary.
Lower carbon footprint - A well-maintained air conditioner uses less electricity, which means fewer greenhouse gas emissions associated with producing that electricity.
Fewer problems with your system - Poorly maintained air conditioners experience far more common and highly preventable problems during the cooling season than well-maintained systems.
Longer operating life - A well-maintained air conditioner can last longer than the typical life span of 10 to 15 years, while a poorly maintained system will fail sooner.

When to schedule AC or HVAC Tune up?

AC tune up or service should ideally be performed in the spring before the cooling season begins, to ensure the cooling system is ready to go when the heat hits. Getting a tune up or service early also ensures you beat the early summer rush, when waiting times are long.
Always hire a reputable contractor for an air conditioning tune-up. Reputable contractors hire skilled technicians who participate in ongoing training in order to keep up with changing technologies and new techniques. They also typically have excellent professional service and guarantee their work.

What is included in the AC Cleaning package?

A tune up service for the air conditioning system works like a tuning up service for the family car. Our skilled technician will perform a comprehensive inspection, cleaning and testing of the AC or HVAC system to increase its efficiency and help prevent operating problems later on. Tune up will include these essential tasks:

A comprehensive system inspection Filter replacement

Inspect and flush the condensate drain to prevent clogs later on, which can cause water damage in the home and shut down the air conditioner.
Lubricate the parts of the cooling system that move, such as the motor and fan, to prevent friction.
Inspect the terminals and wiring, tighten connections and apply nonconductive coating to prevent the wires and terminals from corroding. Clean and inspect essential components, including the fan, motor and coils, to increase efficiency and help prevent premature failure.
Measure the refrigerant charge. Low refrigerant levels mean that either the system wasn't properly charged when it was installed, or that you have a leak. Either way, if the system is low on refrigerant, it won't operate properly and will experience a number of operating problems. If a leak is detected, it will be repaired and refrigerant will be added to meet the exact specifications of the system.
Inspect the seal between the ductwork and the main AC unit to ensure air isn't leaking out.
Check the thermostat for accuracy and calibrate it if needed. Inspect fuses and belts.
Inspect AC coils for scale, dirt and grime buildup, which reduces the efficiency of heat exchange. Measure the airflow of the system to ensure it meets specifications Running a system performance test Most tune up services for ducted units will also include an inspection of the ductwork to ensure that the conditioned air will reach all areas of the home. New York City Local Law 11 (Local Law 11/98) requires that all window air conditioners installed in multi-dwelling buildings (6 stories and taller) be secured properly. NYC Department of Building has issued below Installation Guidelines for window mounted air conditioners:
Make sure the unit is installed securely. Support the unit from underneath, or firmly fasten it from inside with angles. You may use metal brackets, mounting rails, etc.
Supporting metal brackets, interior angles, etc. should be structurally fastened to the building and must be strong enough for the size and weight of the AC unit. Objects or shims used to adjust the position of the AC unit must have an independent source of fastening or attachment. Secure leveling objects to prevent movement and shifting due to vibrations from the AC unit, wind and other weather conditions.
Install the AC unit so it remains in place when the window is opened, or affix it so that the window can’t be opened accidentally.
Tilt the unit slightly to provide water drainage, but don’t over tilt. Do not use loose objects - such as wood blocking, bricks, telephone books, gypsum board or cans - to support the leveling of the AC unit.
Do not place anything (TV antennae, satellite dishes, plants, etc.) on top of the AC unit.
Do not block fire escape windows or other exits with the AC unit. Through the Wall

Final delivery and installation is scheduled and performed per your convenience All air conditioners including PTAC units, Central Air and Room AC, over time are a nesting place for black mold, and their blower wheels as well as their housings make great a place for black mold to accumulate. Once you notice it on the vent (where the air is pushed out from the unit), or on the coil of the unit it is a warning to get your unit cleaned professionally. As you use your air conditioner or PTAC it removes moisture in the air through the evaporator coil, besides pulling warm air into the unit it pulls microbes and dust particles through it as well. As it does this the water runs down the coil to the base pan where it usually collects on a maintained unit it would drain out to the rear of the unit and then outside.

If the air conditioning unit is not maintained the drains would clog and allow for black mold to develop. It is in these water pools that black mold grows, and then their spores are passed along with the cold air through the ducts into the house. Black Mold is blown out every time an ac with mold is turned on. Blower Wheel Mold and dirt will attach itself on the blower wheel and be pushed out into the room when on. Dirt and mold Dirt and Mold attaches itself to the vent openings of the face. This is blown into the air.

Give us a call to avoid this from happening to you! We will come to your home or business and pick the PTAC or air conditioning unit for transportation to our shop to apply steam cleaning procedure. Once we have the air conditioner in our shop we will per below step-by-step in shop AC Steam Cleaning Process.

AC Steam Cleaning! HVAC Pressure wash!

Why and when AC steam cleaning is needed?

Let's understand step-by-step.

The coils: An air conditioning system has two coils, condenser coil and evaporator coil usually made of copper tubes with aluminum fins. The evaporator coil, or indoor coil, is often described as the "cold" coil because it provides indoor cooling. The coil works by absorbing heat from the indoor air that is blown over by the air handler's fan. The condenser coil or outdoor coil is the "warm" coil as it rejects the heat as a fan blows outside air over the surface. There are variety of coil cleaning solutions to clean both the condenser and evaporator coils.

Dirty Coils Waste Energy and Cost Money: A coil fouled with dirt and grime cannot supply proper heat transfer and results in greater energy consumption. Equipment operating with dirty coils can use up to 37% more energy than those with clean coils. Additionally, a dirty system’s cooling capacity can be reduced by as much as 30%. Dirty coils increase operating pressure and temperatures that breakdown the compressor’s lubricant and can result in equipment failure. A failed compressor means no cooling and costly repair.

Coil Steam Cleaning Frequency: A coil Steam cleaning program should be instituted when the coils are new, clean, and should be performed with a frequency to prevent deterioration of the coils. This can be as often as four times a year (monthly cleaning is reported in some areas). If they do not already exist, install easy to open panels to gain access to the coils. This will make easier access when coil steam cleaning is necessary.

What about the Condensate Pan?:The air drawn across a cooling coil contains water vapor which condenses and collects in a pan under the coil called a condensate pan. The pan is connected to a drain line to keep the pan from overflowing and causing damage to the air handler or other building structures. As it is generally wet, microorganisms can form colonies in the condensate pan. Cleaning the condensate pan and checking for proper drainage is an important part of the coil cleaning process. To help prevent growth of these organisms, the pan should be treated between cleanings with a biocide.

AC steam cleaning is the only effective absolute remedy. Please contact us for more information on pricing and services related to Steam Cleaning Process.

A water source heat pump (WSHP) operates much like a traditional air source heat pump except that it extracts and dissipates heat by way of water instead of air. Water source heat pumps (WSHP), work on basically the same principle as air source heat pumps, but they extract heat from water rather than the air. They do this by cycling water through a system of pipes. As the water cycles through, it gathers heat and then carries it back to your house.

A fan coil unit (FCU) is a simple unit consisting of a heating or cooling coil and fan. It is part of an HVAC system found in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Fan coil units circulate hot or cold water through a coil in order to condition a space. The unit gets its hot or cold water from a central plant, or mechanical room containing equipment for removing heat from the central building's closed-loop.

Fan coil units are divided into two types: Two-pipe fan coil units or four-pipe fan coil units. Two-pipe fan coil units have one (1) supply and one (1) return pipe. The supply pipe supplies either cold or hot water to the unit depending on the time of year. Four-pipe fan coil units have two (2) supply pipes and two (2) return pipes. This allows either hot or cold water to enter the unit at any given time.

Cool Air Corp is focused on keeping you comfortable all year round. We sell all types of domestic and commercial line Fan Coil Units (FCU). We carry vide selection of makes and models of different sizes, BTUs and types. Please call us for more information and updated models.

Ductless Split System | Mini Split System in NYC
Mini Split Air Conditioner, Ductless Split System, Single, Dual and multi-zone Split System
Our Products Single zone mini split, dual zone mini split, tri-zone mini split Typical Ductless Split System Installation What's a Ductless split system or Mini Split System?
A ductless mini split system is comprised of an indoor unit called the evaporator and an outdoor unit called the condensing unit. The evaporator is connected to the condensing unit by copper tubing and electrical wiring which is passed through a 2 ½” – 3” hole. Basically, it is a small central air unit with the flexibility of cooling or heating one room or more; zoning. All that's required to install the ductless mini split system is a hole to run the refrigerant lines between the indoor and outdoor units. the indoor system uses low voltage wiring, so there is less need to worry about an electrical hazard. The mini ductless split system can be used in just about any space you would like it, it doesn't matter if the room is small or large. there is a mini-split system that can be used. The dual and tri-zone models have an extraordinary arrangement of capacities in both A/C and heat pump models.

What are the advantages of installing ductless mini split over a central air system?

1) With Central Air you must cool an entire home when only one room may need cooling. On the other hand, ductless mini split systems cool only the areas you want and not the areas you don’t.
2) 18,000 BTU is a typical minimum central air unit. With ductless mini split systems, you can use 7,000, 9,000 or 12,000 BTUs.
3) Typical homes are not zoned or require complex zoning systems, which makes it very expensive for the homeowner. With ductless mini split system, multiple evaporators make zoning as simple as setting a remote control.
4) Energy wasted in long lengths of uninhabited ductwork means higher energy bills. Less than 5% cooling loss occurs in insulated refrigerant lines compared with up to 25% through ducts.
5) Retrofitting existing construction requires cutting holes in walls, floors, ceilings or decreasing closet space with ducts. Ductless mini split systems requires just a 3 or 4” diameter hole in the outside wall. Means less mess and better home aesthetics.

What are different types of Ductless mini split systems?

Choice of Ductless mini split system depends on four main factors mentioned below; Zones: Single Zone, Dual Zone, Tri Zone or Multi-zone Placement Location: Ceiling Cassette, Ceiling-Suspended, Concealed Duct, Wall Mounted Heat preference: Cooling Only or Heat Pumps

Capacity: Available from 1 ton to 10 tons

Mini Portables, Room Portable Air Conditioners, Commercial Portables Our Products

What is Portable Air Conditioner (PAC)?

Portable air conditioners are air conditioning units that can be transferred from one room to another. They're self-contained systems that do not require any permanent installation. However, portable ac do require venting via a window or wall. Once you've positioned the portable air conditioner where you'd like it, you must set the exhaust hose through an opening to the outside so that it can vent hot air out of the room.

How are they installed?

It's necessary to vent portable ac because they extract hot air. If you want your air conditioning system to cool the room effectively, you need to let the hot air vent to the outside. When you purchase a portable ac, the venting kit will almost always be included. Portable air conditioners can also be vented through a window, wall, ceiling or even a door. Plexiglas is generally used for venting portable air conditioning systems through casement windows. First, you need to cut the Plexiglas to the size of the window. Then cut a 5" hole and set this over the open window. With this, the portable air conditioning unit will vent the hot air to the outside. Also, an option of Plexiglas installation will allow the same amount of light to pass through the window as regular glass.

What size air conditioner (BTU level) do I need?

Similar to other types of room ac, portable ACs measure their power in BTUs. The more BTUs of cooling power a PAC has, the more room it can cool. Use the following guidelines to determine the portable air conditioner capacity that your space requires. These calculations assume that you have standard 8-foot ceilings: 7,500 BTUs will cover 150 sq. ft. x 8-ft. ceiling = 1,200 cubic feet 9,000 BTUs will cover 200 sq. ft. x 8-ft. ceiling = 1,600 cubic feet 10,000 BTUs will cover 300 sq. ft. x 8-ft. ceiling = 2,400 cubic feet 12,000 BTUs will cover 400 sq. ft. x 8-ft. ceiling = 3,200 cubic feet 13,000 BTUs will cover 450 sq. ft. x 8-ft. ceiling = 3,600 cubic feet 14,000 BTUs will cover 500 sq. ft. x 8-ft. ceiling = 4,000 cubic feet

I have a casement/crank-out window. Can I configure my PAC to exhaust air out of this type of window?

Unfortunately, there are no portable air conditioner units with a window kit that will fit a casement window. Some customers have creatively fashioned a solution using Plexiglas to cover their entire window area. Then, they cut a small hole into the Plexiglas for the hot air exhaust hose.

Can I discharge the hot air out of a sliding glass door or sliding glass window?

Danby DPAC12099 Vertical Installation Most portable air conditioners can be easily vented through traditional double-hung windows, also known as vertical sash windows, using window kit accessories. These same accessories can typically be used for venting a portable air conditioner through a sliding glass window as well. Some User Manual provides detailed instructions for installing this portable AC into a sliding glass window. The configuration should look similar to diagram on the left.

Venting portable air conditioners through sliding glass doors is much more complex than simple window installations.

The window installation kits used for traditional windows typically don’t extend far enough to cover the height of the door. For sliding glass door installations, we recommend using at least two window installation kits that are designed to work with your particular portable AC to completely cover the door opening. The two window installation kits can then be secured together using screws. Plywood and Styrofoam can also be used as covering and insulation material when installing a portable air conditioner into your door frame.
Regardless of the installation that you intend to perform, always consult the owner’s manual for instructions, guidelines, and cautionary information.

Choose a Thermostat That Fits Your Lifestyle

Most programmable thermostats come with user-friendly digital displays that make it easy for you to preset different temperatures for different times of the day. Many models let you differentiate between weekday and weekend programs. Some devices are Wi-Fi enabled, so you can change the settings from your computer, smart phone or tablet. Others come with thoughtful extras such as alerts that tell you when it’s time to change your air filter. Virtually all of the models on the market today let you manually override the setting whenever you like without losing your preset programming.

Add Up Your Energy Savings

For optimal savings, aim for a “setback” period of at least eight hours. For each degree that you adjust the setting over an eight-hour period, you can expect to shave 1 percent off your heating or cooling bill. During the winter, program the device to drop the temperature in your home 10 degrees while you’re away at work or when you retire for the night, and you can reduce your heating costs by 10 to 20 percent. In the warm-weather months, you can use the same setback strategies to lower your air conditioning expenses.

Optimize Your Home Comfort

In every season, you can program the thermostat to reach your ideal temperature by the time you return home or before you start your day, so you never have to sacrifice your personal comfort to save money. You can wake up to a warm and cozy home on a cold winter morning or experience a breath of cool air when you walk through the door at the end of a hot summer day. Having one of these small technological wonders working for you lets you enjoy the full benefits of your HVAC systems, all while significantly lowering your energy bills.

At Cool Air Corp , we are committed to not only the temperature inside your house, but the quality of the air you breathe. The EPA has determined that indoor air quality is often more polluted than outdoor air quality. Do not let your home be one of those environments.

Our factory trained air duct cleaning technicians have a comprehensive set of services and products to help you maintain the highest quality of indoor air. From duct cleaning to filters and air purifiers, Cool Air Corp can provide you the peace of mind to know that your family has the cleanest possible air to breathe by providing excellent air duct cleaning service.

Our air duct cleaning company consistently invests in the most modern technology and air duct cleaning equipment to rid your home of the dirt, bacteria, dust and debris that has built up in your air ducts. We use a negative machine, equipped with HEPA filtration, and a powerful air compressor and air agitators to ensure your air ducts are thoroughly cleaned.

Air Duct cleaning! A service mostly ignored and why it's necessary?

According to the American Lung Association, "Indoor Air Pollution is wide spread. You are more likely to get sick from pollution in your home and office than from pollution in the air outside." Your home's air is 5 to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air. Allergies and sinus conditions are commonly caused by mold in the ductwork, bacteria, viruses, fungi and dust mites in your home's air.

It is also known that Americans spend up to 90% of their time indoors. Therefore, indoor allergens and irritants can play a significant role in triggering asthma attacks, among other health issues. And don’t be surprised, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) indoor air pollution is the 8th most important risk factor and responsible for 2.7% of the global burden of disease - from pneumonia, chronic respiratory disease and lung cancer to migraines, and debilitating headaches.

What are some of those triggers?

Second Hand Smoke: Second hand smoke is a mixture of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe or cigar and the smoke exhaled by the smoker that is often found in homes and cars where smoking is allowed.

Dust Mites: Dust mites are too small to be seen, but can be found in almost every home in mattresses and bedding materials, carpets, upholstered furniture, stuffed toys and curtains.

Mold: Mold can grow indoors when mold spores land on wet or damp surfaces. In the home, mold is most commonly found in the bathroom, kitchen and basement. Cockroaches and other Pests: Cockroach body parts, secretions and droppings and the urine, droppings and saliva of pests such as rodents are often found in areas where food and water are present.

Warm-Blooded Pets such as Cats and Dogs: Pets’ skin flakes, urine and saliva can be found in homes where pets are allowed inside.

Nitrogen Dioxide: Nitrogen Dioxide is an odorless gas that can be a byproduct of indoor fuel burning appliances such as gas stoves, gas or oil furnaces, fireplaces, wood stoves and unvented kerosene or gas space heaters.

Cool Air Corp 's Residential Air Duct Cleaning NYC

You and your family deserve clean, comfortable indoor air from your HVAC system. You also deserve accurate, and low utility bills, as well. One way to achieve these ideals is to make sure

that your air ducts are kept clean and contaminant free. Cool Air Corp specializes in inspecting andcleaning residential air ducts for home dwellers in New York City, Long Island, New Jersey and Connecticut. We offer convenient and affordable solutions that bring clean and fresh indoor air to you all year long.

Why is residential air duct cleaning service so important to home dwellers?

Did you know that every time your furnace, or air conditioning unit turns on, it sucks up pollutants and allergens right into the unit? Some particles are re-circulated back into the air, but others stay inside your HVAC system, and begin collecting on the walls and floors of your air ducts. These pollutants can consist of dust mites, pollen, bacteria, animal and human dander, drywall dust, cooking vapors, household chemicals, and many more! Because these pollutants are so small, many people are fooled into thinking that they are harmless. In reality, a little goes a long way in the dirty air duct business.

For instance, one small teaspoon of dust from your air ducts can contain over half a million, dust mite fecal pellets. No wonder so many people suffer from coughing, sneezing, headaches, watery eyes and itchy skin when they breathe in dirty indoor air. Studies from the Environmental Protection Agency give alarming statistics about the quality of our residential indoor air (70% dirtier than our outdoor air) and there is no end in sight.

Signs You Need AC Repair

  • Your system is producing limited airflow – When you hold your hand up to the vent, you should feel a substantial flow of air coming from it; if you don’t, you’ll need AC service.
  • Your AC is cycling frequently – If your home cooling system cycles (turns on and off) quickly and often, it could be a mechanical problem in your system. It could also mean that your system is too large for your home – a problem that can lead to unnecessary wear and tear on your air conditioner and higher than necessary energy bills for you. Either way, you’ll need to call in a pro to have it looked at.
  • Your AC isn’t cooling the house – If your air conditioner is constantly running but the house isn’t cooling, there are many potential causes – so many, in fact, that doing the detective work to find the right one can be a challenge. AnCool Air Corp will know how to narrow down the causes and get the air conditioning repair done quickly and correctly the first time.
  • Your bills are noticeably higher – If you notice your bills creeping up year after year – or month after month – despite using your cooling system a similar amount of time, your air conditioner could be overworking to cool the house. Professional service will help you spot the cause of the overwork and help keep your bills more manageable.
